Susan Terry Covell, age 84, died peacefully at home with her family around her, on September 22nd, 2020, in Austin, Colorado.
Born March 29th, 1936 in Troy, New York, the daughter of William and Grace Lennon Terry.
She graduated from Wheelock College in Boston, with a degree in Elementary Education.
Sue married her 4th grade classmate Tom, on August 10th, 1957 and spent the first year of married life teaching 3rd grade.
Sue and Tom’s family began shortly after that first year and Sue spent many years enjoying being a stay at home mom to their three children and volunteering in each of their schools.
Sue went back to school when the children were older, to add a Master’s Degree of Special Education and spent several years teaching and using that degree in Wolfeboro, NH.
When the family made a move to Detroit, Michigan, Sue stepped into the busy and demanding position of Director of Volunteers at Children’s Hospital in Detroit. She continued in this capacity at Penobscot Bay Hospital in Maine when she and Tom moved there to be close to her mother, Grace.
When grandkids began arriving in Colorado, Sue and Tom moved West to be closer to them.
Sue was a smart, funny, organized and curious person – interested in everything. She was a loving mother, grandmother and wife who married her best friend and remained best friends with him throughout their wonderful 63 years of marriage. She is already sorely missed.
She is survived by her husband Tom Covell, her son Terry Covell, her daughters Wendy (David) Mark and Julie (Jeremiah) Beach, as well as her grandchildren Cooper (Nicole) Mark, Dane (Aly) Mark, Grace Mark, Zach, Tyler and Ethan Beach.
A Celebration of Life will be held for immediate family at their family camp on Cranberry Lake in New York, August 2021.
