Sylvia Marie Bingham

January 4, 1934 — February 21, 2025

Sylvia Marie Bingham passed away on Friday, February 21, 2025 at the age of 91.

The oldest of seven children, Sylvia grew up in Grand Junction, graduated from Grand Junction High School and attended Colorado University School of Nursing. It was there when she met her life partner, Martin “Bing” Bingham, on a blind date. They were married three months later on July 26, 1953.

Sylvia received a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the University of South Florida and later her Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from Colorado Mesa University. Sylvia was a leader in Early Childhood Education at School District 51 for many years before she and Bing joined the Peace Corp in 1993 and were stationed in Jamaica for two years.

Sylvia loved music, books, learning and people. The people that knew her often expressed the consistent positivity and warmth she brought to their lives. Sylvia enjoyed hiking with family and friends – she climbed Mt. Garfield at the age of 80! She spent summers camping with her family across the country between Florida and Colorado. She enjoyed both downhill and cross country skiing on the Grand Mesa. She was an active member of the Koinonia Church for over 40 years.

Sylvia was preceded in death by Bing in 2019. Sylvia is survived by her daughter, Dena (Pat) Carpenter; sons, Paul (Cindy), Scot, Dave (Julie) and Ken (Michelle); 16 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.

On behalf of our whole family, a big thank you to Hope West and the entire staff at Aspen Ridge Alzheimer’s Special Care Center for surrounding Sylvia with love and kindness these last few months.

A Life Celebration will be held in late Spring – to be announced.
