Terry Gene Blackwell, 79, died Friday, March 19, 2021, following a long illness.
Born August 2, 1941, in Long Beach California, Terry was the son of the late Robert and Gladys Blackwell.
Terry graduated from Chaffey Union High School, Ontario, California in 1959.
Retiring from 45 years in the grocery business, Terry enjoyed his work in the produce departments and interacting with his customers. After retirement, he spent several years working part time at the Ace True Value Hardware store before moving to Grand Junction, Colorado.
Terry was past exalted ruler of Oceano-Five Cities Elks Lodge, Oceano, California, 1985-1988 and continued his devotion to service here at Grand Junction Elks Lodge.
Terry's passion was BBQ. He was the BBQ demo man, showing the diversity and functions of all the BBQ's sold by Ace True Value Hardware and could be found most weekends sampling the cooks at the local stores. He did volunteer BBQ and he had his own BBQ catering business, winning many awards through the years.
Fishing and riding his ATV were among Terry's favorite active sports, and his 1934 Ford Roadster kit car was his hobby.
Terry was a jovial fellow and could always be found wearing a smile.
Devoted to his family, Terry adored his wife, Sherry, and was so very proud of his children. He was a hard working man who always provided for his family and enjoyed helping others as well.
Terry Gene Blackwell was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Lloyd Blackwell, his parents Robert and Gladys Blackwell and his daughter Dawn Maria Blackwell.
Terry is survived by his wife Sherry Blackwell, Grand Junction Colorado; his brother Dewayne (Monty) Blackwell, Arroyo Grande California; son Scott (Elizabeth) Blackwell and grand daughters Katelin, Aubrey and Amber, San Luis Obispo California; and nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date.
