Thomas Arthur English passed from this life and went home to be with the Lord on December 24, 2019. He was born October 19, 1934 in Woodsfield, Ohio to George and Maxine English. His father later remarried Garnet English.
As a youth he enjoyed fishing, basketball, and riding roller coasters. Tom always loved family and had a compassion for others. In high school, he spent his lunch hours running home to take care of his grandmother who had suffered from a stroke.
In 1954 he graduated from Woodsfield High School and enlisted in the United States Navy the following month. He viewed being an American citizen as a great privilege and was always proud to have served his country. His navel tour took him to many far away places, including England, Scotland, Greenland, Cuba, and Panama. It was in the Navy that he became a believer and was later baptized on August 3, 1958 in the Ohio River by the preacher at the Woodsfield Church of Christ. He was a faithful and active member of the Church of Christ for 61 years and always considered his church family as members of his immediate family.
Tom had a very strong work ethic and was employed at many different places, but most of his career was at the Grand Junction Trailways as the area general manager. He worked there for 20 years.
Tom married Robin on November 7, 1965. They had four children, 14 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild.
He is survived by his loving wife, Robin of Grand Junction, Colorado; adoring children, Jack (Wendy) of Windsor, Colorado, Lorene (Kelly) of Moore, Oklahoma, Christy of Venice, Florida, and Tom (Christine) of Fairbanks, Alaska; blessed grandchildren, Kayli, Emily, Thomas, Jack, Ryker, Amber, Abby, Bailey, Spencer, Benjamin, Brian, Bryce and Molly; a sweet great-grandchild, Aurora; siblings, George, Frankie-Jean, and Sandie.
He was preceded in death by his father, George; mother, Maxine; mother, Garnet; brother, Dale; sister, Patty, and grandson, Cody.
A Celebration of Tom’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m., December 31st at the Church of Christ, 2893 Patterson Rd. A military honors ceremony will be held at the Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery at a later date.
For the compassion, love, and care shown by the people at Hope West, our family is truly grateful. Donations may be made in his honor to Hope West Hospice.
