Thomas “Tom” Paul Black, age 91, died October 12, 2023, following a brief illness. Born July 19, 1932, in Denver, Colorado, he was the son of the late Thomas Paul Black, Sr., and Elizabeth Derr Black. He grew up in Cheyenne, Wyoming, and graduated from St. Mary’s High School. Tom went on to Regis University in Denver to graduate with a B.S. in Mathematics.
He married Monica Yvonne Mark, but divorced after 20 years of marriage. They had five children.
Tom followed in the footsteps of his father and became a building contractor in Cheyenne until he moved to San Diego County, California in the late 1970’s. He was a quiet, reserved man who enjoyed reading, oil painting, and watching football. He studied natural medicine, and often helped others with his knowledge.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, John and Jim Black, and a sister, Mary Butler.
He is survived by two sisters: Virginia Black and JoAnne T. Carter, his children: Mary Liz (Rob) Cabelli, Rosanne (Ray) Croft, Christine (Martin) Chenoweth, Kathleen Black, and Thomas Martin Black. He has four grandchildren: Gabriel Vigil, Nathaniel Vigil, Caelia Croft, and Andrew Chenoweth, as well as three great-grandchildren: Sean and Noah Vigil, and Lucy Vigil.
Before Tom’s death, he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and became a Jesus-Follower.
His remains will be interred in a private memorial at Olivet Cemetery in Cheyenne, Wyoming.
