Timothy Lee Hughey

December 24, 1962 — January 14, 2025

Tim was born on Christmas Eve, 1962, in Farmington, New Mexico to Larry George and Shirley Eleanor Hughey. He was the second of two sons. The family soon moved to Grand Junction and Tim completed his education at Grand Junction High School. For a period of time, he worked in food service at the Holiday Inn and then joined Mesa County Valley School District 51 in their Custodial Department. After a brief but serious illness, on January 14, 2025, Tim succumbed to complications from Covid at St. Mary Hospital. He left us far too soon and we will all miss his quick smile and that sparkle in his bright blue eyes.

Tim loved his job and treasured the friends he made while working. He started working for Mesa County Valley School Dist 51 Custodial Department in April of 1996 and worked seventeen of his twenty-eight years as the night custodian at Bookcliff Middle School. Tim earned numerous perfect attendance awards throughout his career, consistently demonstrating an unwavering commitment to his work. He often went above and beyond, routinely covering lunch shifts for custodians who were out sick, never hesitating to lend a hand wherever needed.

Tim's dedication, work ethic, and willingness to help others were unmatched, leaving a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of working with him.Tim was a devoted member of the Grand Junction Church of Christ, seldom missing an opportunity for fellowship and helpfulness. He loved caring for his two cats, Sylvia and Rosie, his home and his cars. He had a growing coin collection, was a whiz at Sudoku, liked to bowl and rode his bicycle hundreds of miles. He enjoyed football (especially the Broncos) and could watch John Wayne movies over and over. He was a good cook, often making dishes and desserts his mother taught him to make.

Tim was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Jon. He is survived by a host of friends, most especially K.C., M.J., Barb and Kim Roberts, his neighbors on Walnut Avenue, his co-workers at Mesa County Valley School District 51, as well as his Aunt Tricia Hughey, and Cousin Clay Hughey (family Julie Anne, Mavis and George), all in Denver.

We will celebrate Tim’s life at Grand Junction Church of Christ, 2893 Patterson Road, on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at 10:00 AM. Memorial donations may be sent to Happy Little Rescue at 2527 West Pinyon Avenue, Grand Junction, CO 81505.
