Una Bibb

Una Marie (Whitmer, Mackendrick) Bibb, 77, died with her family by her side January 27, 2017, at the Hope West Hospice Care Center in Grand Junction, CO.

Una was born August 4th, 1939  in Lowpoint, IL of the late Leslie and Hazel Whitmer.  She was the youngest of 10 children. She graduated from Urbana High School, IL, and moved to Colorado.  She married Frank MacKendrick in Delta, CO in 1958 and they had the first of their 3 children in 1960. Una tragically lost her first husband in 1975, and bravely raised 3 teenagers on her own.  In 1979, she remarried to William “Frank”lin Bibb, and they lived in Massachusetts for a few years before returning to Colorado. They worked together with friends to build a cabin and peaceful retreat for themselves, their friends and their family, where many happy memories were made.  She was widowed again in 2008, after caring for her husband during an extended illness.

Una was a caring, creative, hardworking, and wise woman who was dedicated to her family and loved the great outdoors. She gardened, and stored food for her family, sewed her children’s clothes and other household linens, reupholstered her own furniture, and often redecorated her home even if it meant moving a wall. She was always available and offered a helping hand or advice to friends and family in need. When times were tough, she found a way, and when she needed a change, she made it happen.  There was no project too big or too small.

Una was preceded in death by 2 brothers, 1 sister, 1 son, Richard MacKendrick, and both husbands.

Una is survived by 6 siblings, her son Rodger MacKendrick, her daughter Ronda Bowen, 8 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 2 on the way.

Una will be greatly missed by all who knew her. An informal memorial dinner, for any who wish to attend and share memories with her family, will be held Thursday, February 2nd at 6:00 pm at the East Meadow Hall, 3198 E Rd., Grand Junction, CO 81504.
