Velma Baker Hodges of Cedaredge, Colorado died Tuesday, November 10 at Larchwood Inns Long Term Care Center in Grand Junction. Velma died from complications from a long-term fight with Parkinson’s Disease. She was 86 years old.
Velma Lorraine Frost was born on December 18, 1933 in Fort Morgan, Colorado. She was the daughter of Floyd and Olive Frost. Her family moved to Cedaredge where Velma grew up and spend her adult life. She graduated from Cedaredge High School in 1952, was married and raised three children. She loved teaching children and spent her time volunteering as a Kindergarten teacher and children’s volunteer at her church. After raising her children, she entered the work force as a Business Office Manager at the Surface Creek Family Practice working for Dr. Dillon in Cedaredge until she retired in 2001. She loved to sew, make quilts and crafting. She loved her family and especially visits around the holidays.
Velma is survived by her three children and their spouses: Tanya & Bruce Marvin of Grand Junction, Co. , Gary & Carol Fischer of Concord CA, and Bruce & Margaret Fischer of Windsor Co. and three siblings: Joyce Frey, Lee Frost & Vern Frost. She is proceeded in death by her parents Floyd & Olive Frost, and four siblings: Alice Sanburg, Doman Frost, Howard Frost & Dale Frost. Velma had seven grandchildren and sixteen great-grand children.
A memorial service will be held in Cedaredge in the Spring after the Covid-19 restrictions have eased. Contributions can be made in Velma’s name to the Grand Mesa Baptist Church’s Mission Fund, Cedaredge, CO 81413.
