Vernon Leroy Wittern, age 101, of Grand Junction, CO passed away Tuesday, September 16th, 2014 at Hope West Hospice Care Center in Grand Junction, Colorado.
He was born May 29th, 1913 in Nucla, Colorado, son of the late Harry William and Cora Ellen Attlesea Wittern. Vernon was a veteran of the U. S. Army having served during World War II.
He and his loving wife, Wilma Louise Demmer, were married immediately after the war and have celebrated sixty-nine wedding anniversaries together.
Prior to his retirement, he worked for 32 years as a Meter Specialist for electric utilities.
In addition to his wife, Wilma Wittern of Grand Junction, CO, he is also survived by his son, Roger (Terry) Wittern, of Broomfield, CO, a grandson, Matthew, (Allison) Wittern, Centennial, CO and a granddaughter, Chelsea (Britton) Johnson of Phoenix, AZ and two great grandsons.
Vernon's ashes will be inurned in the family plot in Nucla, Colorado
The family suggests memorial contributions be made in Vernon's name to Hope West Hospice and Palliative Care, 3090 West 12th Street Unit B, Grand Junction, Colorado 81506
