Virgil Eugene Arment, 71, passed away Thursday, February 20th at home, with his wife, Lori, by his side.
Virgil was born on Sept. 1, 1953, in Red Rock, IA to Gerald and Anna Arment. The family soon moved to Grinnell, IA, where Virgil graduated from high school in 1971. He spent a year attending Iowa State University, before moving to Des Moines, where he worked for three years as a draftsman. He then worked for three years building stadiums. In 1977, he moved out west and started working for the Forest Service, and later the Bureau of Land Management as a wildland fire fighter. During this time, he attended Fort Lewis College to study education, so he could join his sweetheart, Lori, as a teacher. He did not ultimately pursue teaching, but in 1995 he married his wife, Lori. Together, they raised three wonderful children, Alex, Jacob, and Toby.
Virgil enjoyed camping, cross-country skiing, reading, listening to Jimmy Buffett, and cheering on the Denver Broncos. His loved ones would describe him as a kind, caring, and patient man. He was always equipped with a dry sense of humor and the tools to fix almost anything. He prided himself on always being prepared and eagerly lending a helping hand. He cared deeply about his work and took great pride in the fact that he always brought every member of his crew home safely. He loved and was loved deeply by his family and friends.
Virgil was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Anna Arment. He is survived by his beloved wife, Lori; his children, Alex Page, Jacob Arment, and Toby Arment; and his siblings, Dennis (Su) Arment of Ankeny, IA, and Linda (Gary) Hunter of Fairlawn, OH; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
