Virginia Ritter

Virginia, age 89 of Grand Junction, CO passed away on January 27, 2021 at Hopewest Hospice Care Center.

She was born June 21, 1931 in Delta, Colorado to Mollie and Tony Schmalz. She married Jack Ritter Dec. 30, 1953 in St. Michael’s Church in Delta. Jack was killed in an avalanche in 1985. They raised four children. In life, Virginia was the salutatorian of her high school graduating class. She held numerous jobs, working at US Bank, Atomic Energy Commission, and the Reverse R Bar which she and Jack owned for 20 years. She then went to work for Sam’s Club, where she worked for 17 years.

The most important thing to her was her faith and family. She was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish for many years. Virginia took an interest in all endeavors her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were involved in. She especially enjoyed a competitive game of Uno!

Virginia is survived by her four children, Jesse, Jackie (David) Jeannine (David), Jim (Michelle), 9 grandchildren, 8 (and one on the way) great grandchildren, sister in-laws Pat Schmalz and Connie Schmalz.

Mass of the Resurrection will be held Tuesday, February 2 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Grand Junction, Colorado followed by burial at Orchard Mesa Cemetery.
