Warren Bystedt, age 90 of Grand Junction Colorado passed away peacefully at home on January 25th 2021.Warren was born in Minneapolis, the 4th son of George Knute and Hedvig Cecilia Lundburg Bystedt. He was preceded in death by his parents and his 3 brothers, Henry, Elsen and Harry and his grand-daughter Kaia.
He leaves behind his dearly beloved wife Marjorie Rose Bytsedt to whom he was married to for 59 years. Also left were 5 sons: Paul of Corpus Christi Tex. Joseph and his wife Gina of Lakeville Mn., Peter and his wife Margo of Grand Junction , Michael and his wife Maki of Lomita CA, John of grand Junction, CO. There are six grandchildren, Steven ,Mathew, and his wife Monica, Samantha, Victoria, and her husband Mitch, Joseph, and Sebastiano, and 1 great grand son Jacob.
Warren served in the US Army from April 1, 1951 through April 10, 1953. He was stationed in Fort Hood Tex. In the 1st Armored Division, serving as a tank gunner during the Korean War . He was assigned to the 45th Infantry Division.
Upon returning from Korea he worked as a carpenter then worked for the Telephone company. At that time he also took up boxing and was a golden glove boxer. He then attended the University of Minnesota, graduating with a degree in elementary education in 1962. While teaching in the St Paul and Minneapolis schools he continued his education receiving his Master degree as a reading specialist. Continuing his education he ended up with a PHD equivalency in reading. He served as the reading consultant for the Minneapolis schools, the state of Minnesota and the Moline, Illinois schools. He was also a school principal and special education teacher.
He moved with his family to Davenport Iowa in 1975. He retired from the Moline Public schools in 1990, when he then moved to Grand Junction with his wife and handicapped son, John
He enjoyed being an active runner and was a member of the Monument Striders.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on February 10th at 10: 30 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church the burial will take place following the Mass at the church columbarium after the Mass.
Donations may be made in Warren's name to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church or Catholic Outreach.
