Wayne Marks

Wayne Alfred Marks, 91, of Grand Junction, Co passed away peacefully at home on January 15, 2023. He was born July 22, 1931, in Denver, Co. to William George and Katherine Irene (Salyers) Marks. He grew up in Sterling, Nebraska, Montrose before settling in Grand Junction, Co. He attended GJHS and lettered in track. He served in the Army as Private 1st class in the Korean war. He served 21 mo's as a sound bang operator. And was honorably discharged after being injured. He married Lois Arletha Grant on December 21, 1951. They were married for 71 years until her passing on May 31, 2022.

Wayne joined the GJFD in 1956. Starting as a driver and retired as the Captain of the GJFD in 1979. After getting into a chemical fire that burnt his lungs. Forcing him to retire.

Wayne also played the guitar forming a band "Yesterdays Memories" with his wife, family, and friends. Playing all over the valley and the senior center.

He loved to fish, hunt, camp, dune bugging with family and friends, race boats in the Colorado River. And he also helped start the "River Skippers".

He is survived by his daughter Lowaine Marks (adopted), Grandchildren Lance and Rebecca Sroufe. All from Grand Junction, Co. Brother William Marks-Yuba City, Ca. Brother-in-laws Glenn Toon-Newport, Or, Al Boyles-Brighton, Co. And many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death is his wife, Lois Marks-Grand Junction, Co. His Father Willaim and mother Katherine Marks. Sisters: Delores Marks-infant-Sterling, Co., Janice VanArt-Mt Shasta, Ca, Sandra Toon, Newport, Or, Katherine Boyle- Brighton., Co. Terry Marks-Galt, Ca. Sister-in-law Ann Marks-Yuba City, Ca. Brother-in-law John VanArt-Mt Shasta, Ca.

Services will be held Tuesday January 24, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at Brown's Funeral Services. Followed by burial at OM Cemetery IOOF.
