Wendell Bates

Wendell J.  Bates was born in Cortez, CO, on April 13, 1939.  He graduated from Nucla High School in 1957. After graduating, Wendell worked at a variety of jobs including a butcher and uranium mill worker in Uravan, CO. There he met and married Beverly Ann Alexander in 1961. In the late 1960’s they moved to Grand Junction, where Wendell worked as a mechanic for Jessie Boyce Motors. In the late 1970’s Wendell was hired by CDOT where from he eventually retired. Wendell and Beverly then traveled the country sharing 53 years of married life.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ollie and Doris (Bush) Bates; sister, Wanda  (Bates)  Ramerez; daughter, Wendy  Ann  Bates,  and  wife,  Beverly  Ann (Alexander)  Bates.  Wendell will be missed by his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all who knew him.

Services will be held Saturday, April 16, 2022, 1:00 p.m., at Brown’s Cremation, 904 N. 7th Street, Grand Junction, CO.
