William (Billy) E. Huff passed away on July 17th, 2022 at St. Mary’s hospital in Grand Junction, Colorado at age 75 after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his family, who will continue to honor his legacy by living their lives to the fullest.
He was born in Telluride, Colorado, where his love of the San Juan Mountains originated. He graduated from Grand Junction High School in 1965, completing his Eagle Scout certification and winning the Joe Biggs award his senior year for outstanding academics and athletics.
He graduated from University of Southern California with a degree in Geology and played baseball for the Trojans, winning the NCAA national championship in 1968 as a 3rd baseman, followed by playing for the semi-pro baseball team, Grand Junction Eagles. He spent most of his business career as an equipment salesman, including B-H Machinery in Grand Junction and Xerox in Denver.
The simplest pleasures in life brought him the greatest joy, like spending time with his family and his love of fishing. For years, he proudly displayed on his living room wall his prized 4+ pound German Brown trout named “Gus” caught at Silver Lake on Grand Mesa. When Gus fell to his demise by a Wiffle Ball, he named his new fishing boat in honor of Gus.
He was just one man but so many things to so many people. He is survived by his wife, Janet Huff, sons; Kelly Huff (Stacey), Ryan Huff (Mindy), daughter; Annie Gonzales (Gino), sisters; Mary Huff Cucarola and Jackie Johnson (Brian). He leaves 9 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. He is preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Lillian Huff and his daughter, Lisa Huff.
The services will be at Brown’s Funeral Services, 904 N. 7th St. Grand Junction, CO 81501 on Monday 7/25/22 at 1:00 pm with a Celebration of Life following the funeral service at Chipeta Golf Course clubhouse, 222 29 Road, Grand Junction, CO 81503.
If you wish to make a donation, the family would like donations to be made to Cody’s Fresh Start Charity Works, a local nonprofit founded by Billy’s sister in memory of his nephew. For more information, go to http://www.codysfreshstart.org
