Audrey Young

Audrey was born November 10, 1924 to Clifford Frank Ament and Esther Lorene Brush in Cedaredge, Delta County, Colorado.  She was the second child in a family of 5.  She had an older sister, Lorraine, two younger  sisters, Janeth and Lynne and a little brother, Loren.  She loved her family and had a lot of fond memories of their growing up years and especially of her Grandma Ament.

She met the love her life, Alfred Lee Young, while living in Cedaredge.  They were married October 25, 1941 in Reno, Washoe County, Nevada.  World War II impacted the United States shortly thereafter, and they found themselves in San Francisco where Al joined the Navy.  He served on a supply ship in the Pacific until the end of the war.  During this time, Audrey lived with her parents in Cedaredge where their first son, Alfred Lee, Jr., was born, and then with her in-laws, Israel Sherman and Bertha Hester Wilson Young, in California  where their second son, Kenneth Frank, was born.  After her husband was released from the Navy, they moved back to Colorado where they took up residence in the Grand Junction area.  Al worked at the Up-to-Date Dry Cleaners for 30 years, and Audrey worked at Ultronics.  In 1959, their third son, Mark Aaron, was born.

They were baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1950, and were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple.  In 1978 they moved to Payson, Utah where Al worked as the Ranger of  Camp Maple Dell Scout Camp for the next 11 years.  Audrey worked in the kitchen at the Mountain View Hospital during that time.  Their next move was to Nephi, Utah at which time they both served as ordinance workers in the Manti Temple for 3 years.  In 1992, they moved to Blanding, Utah where they resided for about 14 years.  They were ordinances workers in the Monticello Utah Temple after it’s dedication in 1998 and served there for 4 years  before making full circle and moving back to Grand Junction where they stayed.  In 2011, Al passed away after struggling with several years of illness.

In all of these places, Audrey made many friends and was much loved by all who knew her.  She was a beautiful, fun-loving and ambitious woman.  She loved to cook, and was well-known among her children and grandchildren for her cream pies, her chocolate chip and sugar cookies.  She loved her family very much and was an excellent listener as well as “conniver” in whatever “fun” situation she could be in.  She created many fond memories with her grandchildren as well as with her children.  She also had quite a few “adopted” family who considered her as “Grandma Audrey” or “Aunt Audrey”.  She was well-loved by many-- both family and friends.

Audrey loved to walk, and until she couldn’t, anymore, she would try to walk at least 1 or 2 miles a day in pretty much any kind of weather.  She loved to read, and could be found with a book in her hand at almost any spare moment she had.  She was also a wonderful gardener.  Her gardens were always full of beautiful fruits, veggies and flowers.

Audrey died on March 30, 2020 in her home in the care of her youngest son and his wife who had given much of their time, energy and love so that she could have the privilege of being at home when her time came to pass on.

She was preceded in death by her husband; grandson, Michael, great grandson, Jeremiah;  her parents, brother, Loren and sister, Lorraine.
