Jacqueline Peters

Jacqueline Louise Peters was born March 27, 1937, in Van Nuys, California, and passed  away on February 5, 2017, at age 79,  in Grand Junction, Colorado.

Jacqueline (Jackie) is survived by three of her children: Michael Lang Peters of Eagle, CO, Susan Louise Bartlett (Doug) of Eagle, CO, and James Chris Peters of Hollister, CA; three granddaughters: Sarah Peters, Elisa Davis and Genevieve Davis; five grandsons: Christopher Peters, Sam Bartlett (Tanisha), Sean Bartlett, Danner Bartlett and Jacob Lopacinski; five great grandchildren: Dagny, Mila, Duke and George Bartlett, and Sylis Fortin.

She is also survived by her sister Virginia Anthony of Crescent City, CA; her sister in law Holly Brooks of Eugene, OR, many beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews as well as cousins and dear friends. Jackie was predeceased by her parents Jack and Genevieve Lang; her brother Patrick Lang; her   daughter Laura Ann Davis; her former husband Loren Peters.

Jackie grew up on her family's ranches in Newhall, Van Nuys, and Santa Paula, CA. She graduated from Santa Paula High School, then attended college in Santa Barbara, Ventura, and San Jose, CA. Jackie married and lived in Whittier, CA until the summer of 1961 when the family moved to Merced, CA. In Merced, she raised her family and continued her education. She graduated from California State University – Stanislaus, with a BA in Liberal Studies and her teaching credential. She later completed her MA, in Library Science, graduating from the University of the Pacific. She was a credentialed K-5 librarian. She worked for Merced County Schools in the resource department, and then taught 8th grade English at Chowchilla Middle School. She was the school librarian for both Burbank and John Muir elementary schools and finished her career as the Librarian at John Muir Elementary School. After Jackie retired she moved several different places before settling in Crescent City, CA. Her final years were spent in Grand Junction, CO where she was close to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Jackie loved to travel and visited places such as Panama, Buenos Aires, and Mexico City.  She loved books, reading and learning. She shared that love with all her family and friends.  She had a great collection of books in her private library, and was faithful in gifting books on holidays and birthdays. She was generous with her knowledge and time and had an enormous capacity for love.

Jackie passed away quietly at home.  Burial and memorial will be held in Smith River, CA.
