Rickie Mease

Rickie Wayne Mease “Grump” August 17, 1958 - December 10, 2021 Rickie Wayne Mease, age 63, of Fruita, Colorado passed away peacefully on December 10, 2021 with his loving family by his side. Rick was born August 17, 1958 to William Eugene Mease and Joan Alvina Bohl Mease and raised in Fruita, Colorado with his five siblings. He graduated from Fruita Monument High School in 1976 and one of his first jobs was in the construction of the modern concrete deck State Bridge that replaced the original truss bridge near Eagle, Colorado. His main interests led him to a life of working as a diesel mechanic and shop foreman for many years. He married Gina Stogsdill in 1978 and was blessed with one adopted daughter and three of his own daughters, which he adored. Rick and Gina were later divorced and he added 2 more step children. He was an amazing father and grandfather who was always patient with the little ones and constantly teasing the older kids. Everyone’s favorite memories seem to revolve around the use of his “Grumpisms” or sayings that only Rick could come up with and usually applied at the right moment to bring upon a fit of giggles. His thirst and adventurous quest for life was contagious and he never missed an opportunity to teach his family the various bits of knowledge that he collected over the years. A self-proclaimed “kook”, Rick never missed an occasion to learn and fiddle with things and had often terrorized his sister, once by tearing apart her perfectly good jump rope to fix the gas line on a vehicle he was working on. Rick married the love of his life, Barbara Wiebers Vaughn in a beautiful springtime ceremony on Easter Sunday, April 16, 2017. Rick and Barbara shared many of the same interests, especially being in the outdoors, riding ATV’s and a shared love of humor and orneriness. They spent the next four and a half years inseparable and enjoyed their time traveling, camping, hunting, rafting, surrounded by friends and family and serving in their church. Rick accepted Jesus at a young age and spent his lifetime in service and giving of himself of his time and of any of his resources. He continued this act of love beyond the grave in donation as Rick was an organ donor. Rick is survived by his wife Barbara Mease and his mother Joan Mease; his siblings: Donny (Kristi) Mease, Collbran, Colorado; Preston (Sheryl) Mease, Grand Junction, Colorado; Willa Shepherdson, Grand Junction, Colorado; Rocky (Terry) Mease, Kouskia, Idaho; his children: Maria Booher, Delta, Colorado; Billie Jean (Jeremy) Dade, Fruita, Colorado; Elizabeth (Eli) Stemrich, Fruita, Colorado; Rebecca Mease, Cheyenne, Wyoming; Crystal (Jesse) Housington, Grand Junction, Colorado; Phillip (Michelle) Hester, Grand Junction, Colorado; Emma (Kyle) Baker, Rangely, Colorado; and Kyle (Rachel) Vaughn, Evergreen Colorado. 24 grandchildren; Travis Mease, Sabrina Dade, Kaleb Dade, Levi Dade, Brooklyn Dade, Keenan Mease, Mackenzie Mease, Izak Mease, Seamus Stemrich, Lily Stemrich, Rickie Morrow, Zackary Morrow, Layla Morrow, Kayne Morrow, Mason Housington, Savannah Housington, Ryland Housington, Leila Housington, Nathan Hester, Annabelle Hester, Rilynn Brown, Reagan Brown, Liam Vaughn and Evelyn Baker; and 3 great grandchildren: Robert “RJ” Mease, Bryson Miller and Ezeriah Mease, along with many other family members. He was preceded in death by his Father, and numerous uncles, aunts and cousins. Memorial service will be held on Friday, December 17th, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at the Redlands Community Church in Grand Junction (2327 Broadway). Kokopelli Dr Fruita, Live streaming will be available through the Canyon West Church Facebook page. Scattering of his ashes will be done at a later time. Donations in memory of Rick Mease can be made to Canyon West Church Food Bank at 456 Kokopelli Dr Fruita,  Colorado where he spent many a Saturday distributing food to folks in need. He will be dearly missed.
