Sheila Young

December 28, 1961 — January 2, 2018

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Sheila Eileen Young (Leas). Sheila was born December 28, 1961 and passed away peacefully on the morning of January 2, 2018 after a 5 month battle with liver cancer. She fought ferociously until the very end.

Sheila was born in Flagstaff, AZ and moved to Grand Junction, CO in 1995. She had many talents and worked as a decorator for weddings and parties. She then began her own business of interior painting and home remodeling. She put her heart into all of her jobs and most clients became lifelong friends. There was nothing Sheila couldn’t do. She brought beauty to all things she touched and her ability to do so was uncontestable.

Sheila loved being outdoors, hiking, biking and exploring Colorado. One of her favorite things was playing Frisbee Golf and taking her dogs to the park. Her two dogs Marley and Cash were the light of her life. Sheila had the unique ability to listen and give good advice to her friends and family. She loved life like no other.

Sheila is survived by her Husband, John Young, Son, Chad Tompkins, Step Daughters Danielle Sydell and Savanna Young, Mother Robin Colton, mother-in-law Marion Vale, sisters Teresa DiMassa and Sherita Rubin. She is also survived by her Nieces Kristina and Michelle Smith, nephew Reeve Rubin, Nephews Drew and Eric DiMassa,  in addition to loving extended family and friends. We want to thank the amazing support and care from her oncologist Dr. Joanne Virgillio and her staff; doctors Bradley Baldwin and Joseph Maruca, Community Hospital and staff and the Hospice providers at HopeWest.

Donations can be made to HopeWest Hospice Care Center, 3090B North 12th Street, Grand Junction, Colorado  81506

There will be a celebration of Sheila’s life in Flagstaff, AZ at a future date.
