Stephen Gammill

Steve Gammill, age 77, of Fruita, Colorado, died of cancer on Tuesday, January 17 at Hope West Hospice Center.  We will celebrate Steve’s life on Saturday, January 28, at 11:00 at First Presbyterian Church in Grand Junction, Colorado

While we will miss his touch and the witty physical presence of Steve Gammill, he will be felt in the memories of his family: He and his wife, Jan, emptied their bucket list with family time, traveling, camping, biking, reading books together, date night, and celebrating his opportunity to record special songs for his loved ones and author two books.

Steve’s daughter, Kim, will remember how her dad made her laugh almost every day and shared his great optimism about all of life’s adventures   She, her husband, and their two daughters will always remember how he serenaded them with his guitar and wonderful voice every Thanksgiving in Albuquerque.

Jan’s grown children, Fawn and Zach, loved Steve for loving their mother and being a very loving “Papa” for their children.  He made sure that Jan traveled to China to meet her first grandson and he made sure she had plenty of playtime with the two grandsons that live in Grand Junction!    His grandsons will always think of “Papa” whenever they see an old car because he always knew the year, make and model!  He loved having special “Papa Time” with his grandsons, be it sharing his model train set, embracing their passion for remote control cars, or sharing stories about his childhood adventures that made their parents cringe!

Steve was an encourager to young people building a career.  He had such an open heart to changes in ways to worship and shared the love of Christ.  Steve’s spirit will move through us as we worship - as his love of music and the Holy Trinity were forefront in his life.

Steve’s absence will be felt by his extended family, BNI friends, his many small group buddies, and those that joined him in years of theological discussions.  Steve’s colleagues in law will remember a trial lawyer turned estate attorney who had a passion for teaching the art of leaving a legacy. His clients were thought of as close friends. His estate plans were so much more than who gets what, but rather about gifting your life story to your nearest and dearest.

Steve, Dad, Papa has given us his life story, his legacy to hold dear in our hearts and memories.

In lieu of any memorial, Steve’s family would encourage you to record your life stories that future generations need to hear!  Steve would do this for his clients and others that ask and he called them “Priceless Conversations”.
